Website Development in Varanasi for Banarasi Saree Sellers

Online stores for Banarasi silk weavers and saree houses, plus booking sites for Varanasi guesthouses, boat rides and spiritual tours.

3 min read

Two things bring the world to Varanasi: Banarasi silk, which carries a geographical indication (GI) tag, and the city itself — the ghats, the Ganga aarti, Kashi Vishwanath and nearby Sarnath. Weavers and saree houses want buyers across India and abroad, and guesthouses and guides want the visitors who are planning a trip. Both are better served by a website they own than by marketplaces and booking platforms that take a cut.

Selling Banarasi sarees online

A Banarasi saree is a considered purchase, often for a wedding, and the buyer is spending real money on something they can't touch. The store has to close that gap:

  • Filter by what buyers actually search for: Katan silk, Organza, Georgette, Tussar; zari type; motifs (butta, jaal, kadhua); occasion; price. A buyer looking for "pure Katan silk Banarasi with kadhua butta" should find it in two clicks.
  • Photography that proves the weave: the full drape, the pallu, the border, and close-ups of the zari and motifs, ideally with a short video of the fabric in motion.
  • Authenticity front and centre: handloom or powerloom stated honestly, silk mark or GI details where they apply, and the weaver's story. Authenticity is what separates you from cheap imitations listed under the same name.
  • Checkout built for high-value orders: UPI and cards, EMI options, COD with an advance for first-time buyers, insured shipping, and clear return terms.

Saree stores I've built

  • Samaraha: premium silk sarees including Banarasi, Tussar and hand-printed varieties, with advanced filtering, wishlist, comparison, and UPI and wallet payments on an SSL-secured checkout.
  • Swarn Sutra: handloom and silk wear including Katan silk Banarasi sarees, with blouses, stoles and kurtas across a collection-based storefront.
  • New Saraswati Saree Centre, Sitara Vastram and more on my work page.

For handloom more broadly (catalogue structure, seasonal collections, selling to families abroad), my Kolkata guide covers the same ground.

Guesthouses, boat rides and spiritual tours

Visitors to Varanasi plan carefully, especially from abroad: where to stay near the ghats, how to see the morning and evening aarti, which rituals they can attend. A website that answers those questions and takes a booking wins them before a booking platform does.

  • Room or tour pages with real photos and exact location: which ghat, how far from the main sites.
  • Bookable experiences: sunrise boat rides, aarti viewing, Sarnath day trips, puja arrangements.
  • Multilingual pages for your main visitor countries, properly translated.
  • An AI itinerary planner that suggests a two- or three-day plan from a visitor's dates. I built one for Explore Fusion with the Groq AI SDK.

Working together

Varanasi is in Uttar Pradesh like Lucknow, where I'm based. Most projects run remotely, but meeting in person is practical when a project needs it.

Questions Varanasi businesses ask

Can we sell to customers abroad?

Yes, with international payments, shipping by country and prices that make sense abroad. Many Banarasi buyers are Indian families overseas shopping for weddings.

Should we sell on our own website or on marketplaces?

Both, ideally. Marketplaces bring discovery, while your own site keeps the margin and the customer relationship, especially for repeat and referral buyers.

Can you list hundreds of sarees with variants?

Yes. The catalogue is structured so adding a saree means filling in a form: fabric, zari, motif, colour, price and photos.
